In these uncertain times, telepractice has become the safest and most convenient manner to conduct therapy. Many caregivers are hesitant about the concept of teleconsultation for various reasons. This is understandable! We hope to address these concerns.
Effectiveness
Research has shown that telepractice is just as effective as face to face intervention (Speech Pathology Graduate Programmes, 2020). In fact, many developing countries (such as USA, Australia) have long been utilising and producing results via online therapy.
Increased Screen time for Children
Sessions are interactive and they are not one-sided where a child sits and looks at a monitor for long periods of time. For the full duration of the session, therapists will engage clients in meaningful and intentional communication, just like in face to face therapy sessions!
Suitability
Being a specialised platform for Speech Therapy, TeleHope is designed to cater to the range of paediatric to adult clients, with much different speech, language and communication disorders. Caregivers are encouraged to sit in for sessions so that they are able to observe and help when required to toggle with features (especially for young children / elderly patients).
It is important to remember that a therapy session is just one hour a week! With the choice of flexible consultation slots, another benefit of telepractice is it facilitates ease of caregiver coaching and enhances the carry over therapeutic skills outside of the clinical setting.
Available Resources
All you need is a working laptop, a stable internet connection and you’re good to go! In fact, all necessary resources pre-uploaded online by therapists, which are easily accessible just with the click of a button. With the exception of children with high needs or elderly patients, parents or supervising adults are not required to conduct the session.
